

When you go on holiday you don’t expect to break a world record. Especially when you’ve spent the past four years suffering with a debilitating injury and never flown abroad.
But this is exactly what Helen Slaughter achieved on her recent trip with The Riding Company to Schlosswirt http://www.theridingcompany.com/uk/mountain-adventure-schlosswirt.htm And the group she was with made living history; by being the first ever team to trek up a mountain nearly 2900m on horseback.
She said: ‘On the way up the mountain I saw some beautiful waterfalls, eagles and heard marmots. But there were also some pretty hair-raising moments as well. While looking over the edge of a summit, I nearly fell off the edge and someone had to grab my coat.’
After a tough climb, the team reached the top and were confronted with a magnificent view that stretched right across the summit.
But four years ago, Helen suffered a debilitating injury to her back. She couldn’t live day-to-day without support, which led to an operation two years ago. The trip was a reward and celebration of her recovery.
She said ‘It’s been amazing. From being incapacitated and suffering from depression. I’m now fit, both mentally and physically.
‘My motto in life is live life to the full, you never know what’s around the corner.’
