Our latest holiday at The Riding Company allows you to experience the breathtaking Pyramids of Giza on horseback.
Head off on a desert adventure across the Sahara, sleeping in colourful Bedouin tents along the way.
Visit ancient monuments far from the crowds, resting and overnighting in the shade of an idyllic Oasis. Visit Bedoin villages and pass through an amazing changing landscape of shimmering open vistas, sand-dunes and stunning sculptural canyons.
We offer three different tours, all of them start in Cairo so that you can visit the Pyramids and the Sphinx on horseback and also visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities (where many of the treasures from ancient Egypt are on display) and experience some vibrant local colour at the night-time Bazaar for some interesting souvenirs.
Tour 1 – Desert Ride with Nile Cruise. This 7 night tour combines the trip to Cairo, the ride around the pyramids and the Sphinx with a NILE CRUISE from Luxor where you can visit the tombs of the Valley of the Kings then sail to Edfu and Aswan for further visits to archaelogical sites. 5 * accommodation, 18 hours of riding.
Tour 2 – Desert Riding with beach time (diving/ snorkelling/spa). 7 night tour which combines the trip to Cairo as above with the ride to the Sakkara tombs and statues deep in the desert (about 6 hours riding), then transfer to Marsa Alam and the stunning beaches of the RED SEA for a few days of desert riding and relaxing in your 5* hotel. Includes a ‘Jeep safari’ to a Bedouin village, 13 hours of riding, 4 dives or snorkelling trips by boat.
Tour 3 – Horse, camel and Jeep Safari. 11 nights. Experience stunning desert landscape on the Sinai Peninsula. The first couple of days are as above then take a jeep safari into the desert to meet the horses. Visit archaelogical sites with overnights in Bedouin camps along the way, then relax at the end of the tour at a famous Red Sea resort. 35 hours of riding. 5* hotels and Bedoiun or modern tents.

Ski joering

Ski joering

Why not try this latest trend sport, which is offered at two of our Ride & Ski venues, the Post hotel in the Italian Dolomites and at the Strasserwirt in the Austrian Tyrol?

It’s like waterski-ing but the ‘horse-power’ comes from a horse, not a boat! Ski jeering costs £45 per hour.

Have a go at this new trend sport where you ski behind a horse, like waterski-ing on the snow! This is actually not a new sport at all, but had its origins in Sweden 2500 BC as a simple means of winter transport by peasants. It was also presented as a demonstration sport in the 1928 Olympics in St. Moritz.
You should be at least 16 years old, a good parallel ski-er, but no riding experience is necessary. You should not deviate more than 1.5m to the side of the horse. During the one hour session, you will learn how to harness and control the horse whilst walking, trotting and cantering.

araberwinter300x220Why not visit Strasswerwirt in Austria for a short break on the piste, with less than an hour on the plane?

The traditional family run hotel has been in the Nothegger family for generations, and has its own riding school with award winning instructors. A couple of short hacks on sure footed haflingers are also possible in winter to view this stunning winter landscape which includes frozen lakes and ice falls.

Or if you fancy staying in Italy, the 2* Orthal is a great budget trip. The family-run hotel is a comfortable, unfussy hotel which has been recently modernised in the local style. The hotel has its own ski slopes, ski school and ski /snowboard hire. Daily rides out in the gentle rolling hills around the Asiago plateau. The area is perfect for beginners and families and there are several other small ski stations in the area. Paradise for cross-country skiers.

When you go on holiday you don’t expect to break a world record. Especially when you’ve spent the past four years suffering with a debilitating injury and never flown abroad.

But this is exactly what Helen Slaughter achieved on her recent trip with The Riding Company to Schlosswirt http://www.theridingcompany.com/uk/mountain-adventure-schlosswirt.htm And the group she was with made living history; by being the first ever team to trek up a mountain nearly 2900m on horseback.

She said: ‘On the way up the mountain I saw some beautiful waterfalls, eagles and heard marmots. But there were also some pretty hair-raising moments as well. While looking over the edge of a summit, I nearly fell off the edge and someone had to grab my coat.’

After a tough climb, the team reached the top and were confronted with a magnificent view that stretched right across the summit.

But four years ago, Helen suffered a debilitating injury to her back. She couldn’t live day-to-day without support, which led to an operation two years ago. The trip was a reward and celebration of her recovery.

She said ‘It’s been amazing. From being incapacitated and suffering from depression. I’m now fit, both mentally and physically.
‘My motto in life is live life to the full, you never know what’s around the corner.’

Live like a cowboy as you trek through the wild, romantic terrain in the Alps.
Families stay in mountain huts and ride Quarter and Paint horses especially imported from South America.
While the children learn how to pan for gold at The Pony Hoo, parents can relax at the Indian Spirits spa or take a trip down to the Western Saloon bar and listen to the live music.
On a Sunday, everyone gathers together in the Saloon to be entertained by cowboy tails. Two-step Western line dancing is held on a Wednesday, so make sure you take your cowboy boots.
The views along each wild trail are stunning and some of the riding is as high as 2000m.
The hotel is open all year round for riding, apart from in November and it lies on a high Alpine pass (1300m) with access into the largest ski area in the famous Zillertal Arena.

Riders will now be able to get closer to spotting whales than ever before, away from the crowds and where you can’t even get to by vehicle, thanks to a new holiday from The Riding Company.
Visit Hermanus, the most famous area in the world for whale watching and see Bryde’s Whales, Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, and the Southern Right Whale, at close quarters. Not only is the large population of whales and sharks unparalleled elsewhere, but the locations are so accessible, that you are virtually guaranteed to witness lots of different species.
Gallop across one of the world’s most stunning beach rides, part of a Unesco protected nature reserve, spread over a week. Holidays are available throughout the year with great beaches, as well as fauna and flora viewing. The whale watching season runs from September through to October, but many whales can still be seen in November.
Catch the start of the whale spotting season, with a trip this Autumn. You’ll get no jet lag, as South Africa is in the same timezone as Europe, the exchange rate is currently in our favour – where the pound can buy lots of South African rands and, well, there are no mating whales to be spotted by the cliffs of Dover.
The Riding Company can also arrange for you to go on a horse drawn tour of historic Cape Town, visit Table mountain by cable car and witness the amazing views or shark viewing and shark cage diving at Gansbaai.
For seven nights at a guest house and bush camp, a full itinerary and full board costs £1450 per person.
There are still some places available at the end of October and early November – which is when the whales come in to mate with the cows and there is plenty of action! It is also when the flowers are in full bloom in the famous flower valley, so get in touch with The Riding Company on 020 7870 7834 or email info@theridingcompany.com to make a booking. For more details visit The Riding Company’s website www.theridingcompany.com
